Guide
Meeting people online is normal now — and mostly great. A few simple habits keep it that way: guard your private info, talk live before you meet, learn to spot fakes and scams, and meet in public the first time.
The vast majority of people online are genuine. But a small number aren't — catfish, scammers, or people who push too fast — and a little caution costs you nothing while protecting a lot. The goal isn't fear; it's a few habits that let you relax and enjoy meeting someone real. On Gendgo, a lot of this is built in: verification, photo moderation, and block & report are part of the app.
Before you meet
No home or work address, financial info, or one-time passcodes — ever. There's no good reason a new match needs them.
A quick video or voice call confirms someone is real and gives you a feel for them — far safer than going straight from text to a date.
In-app chat and calls keep your number private and your conversation reportable. Be wary if someone rushes to move you to another app.
If their pictures feel too polished or never change, ask for a live call. Real people are happy to hop on.
Red flags
The single biggest tell. Endless excuses to never go on camera or voice = a strong reason to slow down.
"I've never felt this way" within days, before you've even spoken live, is a classic scam pattern.
No genuine match needs a loan, gift cards, crypto, or help with a "stuck payment." Any money request = stop and report.
Always travelling, working offshore, or unable to meet for reasons that keep changing. Trust the pattern, not the excuse.
Meeting in person
A café or busy spot for a first meet — daytime is even better. Easy to leave, easy to relax.
Share where you're going and when you expect to be back. A quick check-in text costs nothing.
Arrive and leave under your own steam so you're never dependent on someone you just met.
If it feels off, it's always okay to call it. Trust your gut over politeness.
